Board Changes

We have had a few changes recently in the Lassen D.E.N. board. We are sad to say that Janessa McNutt is no longer with us as the Volunteer Coordinator. We will miss her very much, and we wish her well in all the many other things she has going on in her life, and in all her future endeavors! Thank you Janessa for all your hard work!

We would also like to welcome a new member to the board. Lori Speer is our new Vice President. We have been trying to fill this position for a long time, and we are excited to have finally found someone who has the skills needed for the job! We are looking forward to working with Lori!

New Year's Update!

The board of Lassen D.E.N. is excited to welcome in a new year and all the hope and progress that will come with it!

Here is our current status and upcoming events:

We submitted the paperwork for our federal non-profit status several months ago (501c3), and we are eagerly awaiting their approval.  We expect to receive it in the next couple of months.  Then your donations will be tax deductible, and we will be able to start applying for grants!

Our next fundraiser is a Valentine's Day Bake Sale and Raffle.  It will be held at the Susanville Walmart on February 14th from 10am to 4pm.  We need volunteers to bake goodies!

We will also have a yard sale in June, so start don't throw things away as you're doing a New Year's clutter purge!  We will start accepting donations for the yard sale in May.

We are looking for a Vice President.  We are looking for someone committed to families in Lassen Country and to providing them with activities, skills and resources.  The right person will be a team player, have connections in the community, be willing to learn new skills, and have expertise that differs from the expertise of other board members.  Grant writing experience, fundraising experience, graphic design ability, and/or experience on another non-profit board are all useful skills to bring to the organization.  The position is currently a volunteer position, but may become salaried in the future after Lassen D.E.N. is operating and it is financially feasible.

Please let us know if you would like to join the fundraiser committee.  Also, take the survey
and let us know how you will use the community center!

Paperwork for 510c3 Status in the Mail!

Please celebrate this momentous milestone with us.... we put the application for the 501c3 status in the mail on September 11th! After months of working on it, thinking it was done, reviewing it, fixing things, thinking it was done, reviewing it, fixing things.... Then waiting until the yard sale was over to be able to pay the filing fee.... only to have a board member's computer crash and losing the financial info.... Then spending HOURS recreating the financial reports until we had balanced everything to the penny.... Then FINALLY compiling the 14 page application, the articles of incorporation, the bylaws, a flier, and a check into one envelope that we put in the mail AT LAST. It's a huge relief to have that DONE! Now to wait the 3 months to 1 year for the IRS to do their part.....
